While Cookie has been on our lap, it appears she has caught her claw somehow... It seems to be where the claw joins the paw. The has been a little bit of blood but it has stopped bleeding and she is walking on it fine.

Is there any chance of infection? We have her on a sheet in her run - Would it be better to keep her on this tonight rather than back on her wood shavings.

We have some Baytril left over in from 'Putt' would it be worth giving Cookie some of this just in case of infection, we have cleaned her foot as best we can.

She doesn't appear to be in any pain...

I wouldn't recommend giving the baytril, if antibiotics are needed it should be a full course not a leftover from another animal. If you have cleaned the foot, the odds are it will heal fine but i would seek a vet's opinion if the foot becomes swollen and red or if a discharge appears.

Edited to add- yes, keep her off shavings until the foot is completely dry and scabbard over.

I would keep her on the sheet until scabbed over as said. Dont give her baytril, it is unlikely to cause an infection, maybe if you are worried you can dunk her foot in some salt water on a daily bases to keep it clean.

Keep an eye out for redness, swelling or any smelly discharge which will indicate a vet visit. She should be fine. Dont worry too much. I'm surprised none have mine have done this yet, theyre always racing around their C&C.

I wouldn't give antibiotics left over from another piggie. My girl Linney once ripped a nail off jumping out of the cage, and although it bled a ton, it scabbed over and never got infected. Her nail even grew back eventually, though it took a really long time. I would keep shavings from it until it has stopped bleeding and would keep an eye on it and see the vet if it looks infected, oozy, or feels hot.

Thanks for all your replies, once the blood stopped it is obvious it is not as bad as first thought.
Cookie is totally fine, am gonna keep an eye on it and obviously take her to vets at first sign of anything out of ordinary with her foot. Was just a bit concerned over getting it infected and have to admit panicked having got covered in bloody pawprints.... but it is now sealed up. Extra lettuce has been served to make up for all the extra unwanted attention she was recieving ( she is not a good patient)

Thanks again
