Hi All,

I am planning on having Oliver neutered in the near future so I'm getting supplies ready. I have read somewhere on a website that it is advised that you change a newly neutered pig's bedding twice daily for the first few weeks.
I have been looking in pound shops for towels but cant find any big enough.

So I was wondering whether I could use puppy training pads instead?
If not could i use them under the towels and then just change the top towels daily?

Thanks in advance

Jess

P.S if anyone has any other advice or tips on the aftercare of a neutered boar please go ahead :)) x

Hi - Personally I would be careful with any type pads as they contain a gel which absorbs the water, which I wouldn't want my piggies to injest (and you know how they like to chew!).

Have you been to your local charity shops to see if they have towels (or even fleeces) that you could use?

Good luck with this

I dont see the problem with pads unless you have a chewer! :) I use it to line the bottom of my pairs hay box, and it doesnt seem to cause any problems for them. But they never chew anything.
But they definatly do need changing twice daily because they get damp to the touch after being weed on alot.

For post-op pigs i use light coloured fleece (Ikea did a nice light blue one for 99p) on top of towels.

I have one piggie addicted to chewing out the wadding in puppy pads...and the plastic edging......not good!.

I used puppy pads when I had Boris neutered, they were Mikki brand and I bought them from Ebay. Luckily he's not interested in any chewing. I use them to line my hutches and protect the wood under other bedding too, so they are very useful to have anyway.

I'd say the best idea would be to try them under the towels/fleece and see how you get on. You might also like to look into Vetbed.
