Purring at the vets?

Hi there,
I've been going to the vets a lot recently and noticed that while waiting for the pokes and prodding my guineas are purring. I thought this was a sign of contentment and I can tell you they aren't content at the vets! Is it a self soothing thing? Any ideas?

@BlueBird Alot of piggy sounds are very similar. It's likely to be a complaining sound.

I had Rapunzel out and took her to see a friend of mine, she works in a big warehouse type store. As soon as I got her out she looked around and started the purring sound. She was obviously scared and not happy about the big open space, but it did sound a lot like her happy purrs.
