I am thinking about doing this for the hot weather. Sort of a 2 in 1 ideas, keeps the water cool and is also good for guinea pigs. Any flaws to this plan? I will only try it in 1 bottle first

Not sure but my only concern would be if it tasted funny it might put them off drinking the water? Never tasted cucumber water 😜

Dear All - I seriously don't think this is a good idea . Cucumbers don't freeze well - they turn to mush unless treated with brine or vinegar prior to freezing - something you are not going to do for guinea pigs.

If you put a slice of frozen cucumber in a guinea pig's water bottle , it is likely bits will come off it as it thaws - potentially blocking the nozzle. Also, as the contents of the bottle get to room temperature- the mushy cucumber could taint the water .

Personally, I don't agree with cooling guinea pigs' water full stop - have you ever had an ice cream headache?

Reply "deleted" Cant be bothered with the idea. Need a rethink 👍

I put crushed ice in their water yesterday with it being so hot. Changed it twice too so was cool and fresh... was too hot for me never mind them... I guess that's the idea of this forum- to sound out our ideas and thoughts of doing the best for the piggies.

Cool. Literally 😜. I doubt it will be cold enough for brain freeze, not if the ice is only a small amount in the water. My aim would be to just be colder than the room temp is
