How warm does it need to be before they can go in an outdoor run (when they are living indoors)? With spring around the corner I was wondering when they can enjoy a run onthe grass :)

I agree. In theory the air was lovely and warm on Saturday (well it was here anyway) but the ground was far too soggy. I think this year we are going to have to wait a while for the ground to dry out.

I know - I can't wait to put the babies out for the first time & see what they think about the food floor!

now, if only grass was chocolate...

wet grass can cause bloat so amke sure its warm and dry before you do this I like it warm enough for me to sit and watch them

About wet grass causing bloat - does that apply to handcut grass that you wash indoors?

I wouldnt think so... because you would want to make sure its clean.... I'm not sure though sorry :)

Not sure about the grass being wet but you do want to make sure you don't put them on the grass for to long when they first start going out again - you want to build them up slowly again (in the same way if you were introducing a new food).

We had a very warm day last week and a patch of the garden which is sheltered was nice and dry. All of my girls got just 10 minutes outside and they loved it! It was so lovely because my freeads piggy Angela, has never been outside before so it was lovely to see her having a good run around. It was just a shame the rain came back the next day so they haven't been outside again since :(

I've started giving them a small amount of grass (handcut) each day partly in the hope they will soon be able to venture into the big outdoors for short periods. It was a shame about the rain - here it was beatutiful yesterday but the ground was still wet from the rain. i've ordered a 3ftx4ft rectangular run for them that I hope will arrive next week.

I am going to mow my lawn at the weekend. Hopefully it will be the only time the electric mower gets used this year ;D last summer the piggies kept it nice and short and it saved my back ;)

Oh wow, sounds great - how many piggies does it take? We were just discussing this evening whether to get someone in to help us mow the 150x45ft lawn we have. Perhaps we just need more piggies!

I always pick my grass then wash and dry it off in kitchen towel before giving them to my piggys and never ever give them mown grass,

Our boys eat all the grass and leave the clover - so the clover gets more and more flourishing and the patches of grass in-between get smaller and smaller ;D ;D ;D

That's what I'm doing at the moment. Do you pick grass through the winter too?
