Putting location on profile page

I have noticed recently that some members have asked for advice about their nearest exotic vet or where to source something for their guineas among other things and I think it would really help if everyone put their location on their profile page.
I think a sticky thread started a while back where we could put in where we were, but not everyone has added to it and it can be time consuming trawling through it :)
I only bring this up because of questions being asked and I look up the members profile to see where in the country they are but it hasnt been put, so unless asked on the post, I (and others) cant help :-\
Of course this isnt obligatory, but it would be beneficial I think and an approximate location is all that is needed...say West Midlands, Surrey, London etc
What do you think?

Hi, thats exactly what i thought - Why dont people put there location anyway its not hard, I guess some people think its private but not like england or Nottingham as t can be anywhere near there ?

I do understand peoples need for privacy or fear of giving too much info, after all the internet is a big scary place, but an approximate location would be really helpful :)
 
It would make it easier if people added on thier profile the area in which they are in. That way if they are in need of urgent help someone on here might be able to point them in the right direction a lot quicker.
 
I think that some people when they first sign up are hesitant as they're perhaps looking for help but unsure if people will help them :-\
Also age might make a difference too, if your young you are always warned not to put too many details on, cause of internet scum that are around.
Thank goodness we're lucky here, no horrible things like that can go on, the mods clamp down real quick if these spam people try to get on >:(
 
sorry if its me. ive put australia on but i get scared cause i think some one can track me down i live in sydney but I'm not going to put wat suburb or watever in sorry. i am only 12 though

I wasnt talking about anyone specific and Sydney is a huge place, so that would be fine :) It is very sensible of you to be concerned!

Like I said, the general area is fine. Perhaps once people have become comfortable on here, they could add it? It is not like some of those sites aimed at younger people which ask for personal information, that is just dangerous imo >:(
Of course I advise never to give out address/contact details for our younger members in particular, but I hope you can see what I am getting at?
 
I agree, when I first signed up I didn't put any location as I didn't know whether this would be a friendly, well-moderated forum. Now that I know it is I've put my county. :)

I think it's always better to be over-cautious on the internet until you're sure, though I do agree that a rough location is helpful!
