Putting the guinea pig cage in the bathroom.

Just adopt 2 guinea pig and got a Midwest cage, is it ok to put the guinea pig cage in the bathroom? I live in a studio and I got a huge bathroom that why I put them in there. Was worried they might be scary by the toilet flashing or when I’m using the shower and brushing my teeth.
 
The noises wouldn’t be scary once they were used to it, but I would wonder about the humidity changes having the shower on would cause unless you are able to ensure that doesn’t happen and that their environment remains constant (with humidity, temperature etc)

Do you have boars or sows? A Midwest cage is typically too small for two boars.
 
:wel:Is there nowhere else you could put them? On a table in the Main room? And if they’re boars then a Midwest will not be big enough unfortunately. Sows can live in a 120x60cm (bigger better though) but boars need minimum 180x60cm. Depending where you got them you are advised to double check their sex. Have a read of the guides below. Once they're settled in (give them a week - put in food and poo pick/clean but no handling) then we’d love to see photos. Cover their cage with a blanket so they can feel safer.

Both of them are male, they were bonded already. I used the guineadad fleece. Just got them yesterday, they seem so scary. Sometime they would used one hideout and sleep together even though there are two.

Did you get them from a rescue centre or pet shop/other sources?

New piggies will be scared. They are prey animals and can take weeks, months and even years in some cases to settle and become less afraid. They need a week to settle in before you try to handle them. For the first week cover their cage and only feed and poop pick their cage. After that, take it very much at their pace.

that’s fine if they are using one hide. you must ensure there are always two of all items in the cage though. Always ensure hides for boars have two exits as if they are young, their hormones will hit at four months of age and then issues can occur.

a Midwest cage will not be big enough for boars though, particularly if yours are yet to go through their teens. They are more territorial and need a lot more room - their cage needs to be 180 x 60cm (150 x 60 at a minimum) but a midwest is only 120 x 60cm

You will need to upgrade their space as soon as possible. Otherwise you will have troubles ahead with their bond. How old are they? I take it they’re young if they fit in one hide together.
 
they are both 8 months old. Adopt them from a family, they can’t keep them anymore. They usually pop in there hide out how I clean it? Don’t want to move the hide out to clean the poop.
 
Just pick up the poop that’s outside the hide. You really need to give them space. They’re in their teenage months now (4-14 months of age) and hormone surges can lead to trouble.

they are in their teens. once they settle in, become less scared and reestablish their relationship in a new environment (which happens whenever there is a territory change) you are highly likely to find that their cage won’t be big enough.

clean everywhere else in their cage for a day or so but then you will have to carefully lift the hide and clean under it to ensure it is kept clean and dry

do all the hides have two exits? The last thing you want is for a teen piggy to be cornered by the other in a one exit hide as that is how defensive wounds can occur.
 
As far as keeping them in the bathroom, there shouldn't be a problem as long as you can control the humidity/temperature. I personally keep my two girls in the bathroom, and I don't have a problem. The first few days I had them, the toilet and shower made them jump, but they're used to it now. I use a fan to keep the air circulating, which helps keep it cool after a particularly steamy shower. I also put an old towel under the hides for my girls. They can snuggle into it to keep warm, and when you clean you just pull it out and wash it :D
 
Yes the hide had two exit, before they pee or pop they like to exit there hiding place and do there business at the back end of the cage. thinking about putting a litter over there. Sometime they like to use one hide and cuddle together.
 
Your focus should be a bigger cage. They can't be toilet trained so expect poo and wee everywhere. If they do it in one place then that's a bonus for you.
