Junior Guinea Pig
Nelli has just been admitted to the vet hospital, and will be undergoing emergency surgery this evening.
A couple of days ago we found bloody discharge in the cage, and were called in for an emergency appointment. After an ultrasound, it was confirmed that Nelli has Pyometra (severity unknown until the vet goes in and checks). She will require a full hysterectomy, and whatever else if she has a really severe case of it.
This is completely unexpected as she showed no other signs of illness, and I am beside myself with worry. I can’t stop crying thinking she won’t make it through the anaesthetic.
The vet allowed us to say goodbye in case it was our last time seeing her. I am worried sick. This feels too soon after everything we’ve gone through with the loss of Benio.
Any words of advice, your own stories of you pigs being spayed/undergoing major surgery/having Pyometra, or anything else would be greatly appreciated.
