I was watching videos on feeding guineapigs for fun, and one girl said cold vegetables are bad for the piggies, I don't know how or why, but it got me thinking if I should start rinsing the vegetables with warm water, to make it "room temperature."

Is this a good idea or not?
Should I be feeding vegetables straight out of the fridge?
-THANKS ALL

Hi @ISAAQqwes I dont think this is really a health and illness query, please kerp to the chat or food threads for this sort of thing, as the health and illness thread is really for advising on ill piggies. Perhaps a staff member could move it to the food or chat thread? @sport_billy @Lady Kelly
I think once you have rinsed the veg as you would normally rinse veg and chopped it and carried it to the piggy cage and the piggy has chewed it up it is probably room temp anyway. Very cold things like frozen would not be good, but I dont think fridge temp is really an issue. Many online videos just spam away with trivia, I personally have never heard that refrigerated veg is bad, though some people who have offered frozen items have run into issues like their piggy getting ice burn in their mouth or their tongue stuck to an icecube I think.

Oh alrighty, thank you for answering :') I have been wondering for a long time if I was doing the wrong thing for my piggies of not washing it with warm water.

I wouldn’t rinse the hot/warm water. I’d always rinse with cold water in any event.
I tend to prep our dinner veggies and piggy veggies a little in advance of when they are needed so they tend to be getting towards room temperature anyway.

Okay, Ill definately do that, I feel super dumb. Thank you for responding :')

I normally leave veg out of the fridge for at least half an hour before feeding. I always rinse in cold water
