Hi

I've got my two piggies. :) They've settled in great and are eating us out of house and home. :))

I just want to check that I'm not feeding too much or too little of veg.

Today, they had two meals (am + pm), and over the whole day, they had:

- 1/4 slice of pepper
- 1 celery stick (chopped into chunks and strings chopped out)
- 2 large leaves of lettuce
- 1/2 tomato (introducing this, so would up to 1-2 tomatoes)

Is this the correct amount? Their menu changes daily, although lettuce seems to be the staple, as is pepper. They get cucumber and parsley also.

Hi!

A good piggy diet consists of:
- unlimited hay (should make up to 80% of their daily food intake; it is needed to keep the guts working well and the crucial back teeth nicely ground down)
- ca. 50g of mixed veg per piggy per day in as many serving as you like. Please include one high vitamin C veg every day, like a slice of pepper, a bit of broccoli (any part) or a sprig of coriander/cilantro, parsley, dill, mint or basil. Please vary. Fruit and tomatoes only 2-3 times a week.
- pellets: unlimited until the weekly growth rate slows down, then very gradually reduced to the half to handful that an adult piggy needs.
- fresh water without additives

Here is a list of what veg piggies can eat - there is much more than you expect! The more you try now, the less picky your boys will hopefully get.

thanks. they have unlimited hay, which they adore and are great hay eaters. They tend to eat a few pellets here and there throughout the day, so eat around a handful each per day.

I don't think there's too much of anything there as a daily intake. Mine also get a little kale per meal + melon skin with a little flesh (either the yellow or the watermelons). Mine also get 2/3 of an apple between 5 daily which is about equivalent to a 1/4 for your 2 a day. I just get the small apples the type packaged for children. When sweetcorn is available with the leaves just as it comes off the plant I give mine 1 or 2 a week. It won't be long before these are in the shops. Apart from that they sometimes get a little cabbage, cauli or brocolli but this is probably just what's left from preparing Sunday dinner. There's lots of other things and sometime things they won't eat in their first year if you try again later you'll find their taste sometimes changes. I forgot to mention, I only give mine a sprig of Parsley every second day & don't forget carrots, mine get 2 small slices each per meal.

Hello, congratulations on getting your piggys! I would say see how their poos are and if they are very moist then hold back a bit on the veg. You'll be surprised how much nuggets they will get through, mine love them! My piggys absolutely to mad for lavender at the moment. Only a few sprigs though every 3 or 4 days.

i didnt realise you could feed lavander i have loads so you just pick it and feed or do you have to dry it? sorry to hijack the post,

Yes lavender is safe to eat. I wash the stalk and flower bud/flower and give them one stalk each. I have the ordinary lavender and I don't know if French lavender is safe x
