Just wondering, how do you quarantine a new piggie and for how long ?

Thanks, Alan :D :D :P :P :D :D

the normal quarentine period is for at least 4 weeks. you must have 2 cages put new piggy in that and keep piggy and cage in another room from your original piggy. when touching piggys afterwards wash your hands. this will protect your original piggy from anything the new addition might have. or to save you from all this hassle you could take your piggy to a rescue and let them pick out a new friend. from a rescue as they are health checked there is no quarentine period needed. O0 good luck hope this has helped. welcome to the forum from me and the girls from oz :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

They stay in shed for 2 weeks and if any illness or death then 2 weeks from end of treatment
Longer the better but not always practicle
But you need them in totally diferent area in winter when all where in shed the quarentine was at the back of shed and cages covered in plastic to shield any bugs and hand washing VERY IMPORTANT! before touching any guinea pigs

Mine stay in quarantine for at least 2-3 weeks but I have had a few that i've kept in quarantine for longer. It depends who / where they come from. I like to keep the ones from auction and public sales in quarantine longer than those that are given up as unwanted.

I totally agree with the importance of hand washing. We have disposable paper towels that are used after every hand wash. This way it minimizes the risk of any nasties getting on to the hand towels that my family use.
