Hi all

I am looking to get a new baby to introduce to one of my piggies who have removed from being bullied by his other brothers. How long are you supposed to quarantine them before introductions and can they be in the same cage but with a divide or do they need to be in different rooms? Also if there are any rescues in need of a home you know of around WIltshire then drop me a line.

Thanks

The point of quarantine is to ensure that your pigs won't pass something onto the new pig and to ensure that new pig isn't carrying anything that could be passed onto your pigs. It is to prevent the spread of potential parasites and diseases.

If pigs are housed beside each other with a divider, or even in the same room yet apart it's impossible to prevent the spread of parasites and diseases between the two cages. You must have them in separate rooms with closed doors. Similarly, when working between the two cages you should adopt a strict hygiene habit: wash your hands after handling the new pig or your old pigs if you intend to later go to the other pig. You can also change clothes or put a temporary jumper over your clothes.

Quarantine is usually held for two weeks, though some recommend three weeks.

There is cottontails in Westbury alternatively I am in Bristol and frequent Salisbury very often so may be able to help. How old is your boy?
