Question about Choking

The other day one of my pigs, Glinda, was choking. They choke when they eat too fast sometimes, but she chocked once, twice then the third time I was getting my shoes on to run out to her but by the time I reached her she had stopped. But then I thought - what would I have done? I asked Dad and he said there's not a lot I could do, unless there's an obvious obstruction.

What do you think? What would you do with a choking guinea pig? :{
 
This does sound fast worse then it is. It is just when guinea pigs eat too fast. They cannot actually choke as they are unable to vomit. You will hear this sound many times when a piggy tries to scoff too much food!:)
 
My youngest guinea pig chokes all the time. He tends to eat and drink as though its his last meal and ends up choking, especially with his water. It doesn't come out fast enough in his opinion.

There's nothing really I can do from what I'm aware of. I just watch him and feel bad but he never learns. Boys. rolleyes

They have no gag reflex. I guess they could choke if they had something bigger then their wind pipe.
 
My Phoebe eats far too quick and chokes sometimes. I always get really worried but eventually she clears her throat herself. They do like to worry us I'm sure of it!

I hope that sweet little Glinda doesn't gobble down her food so quickly next time!

I quite often hear a little 'cough' noise when I'm in the garden as the piggies are rather enthusiastic about grass, but it was the fact that Glinda kept doing it that worried me! Hopefully she will learn her lesson :)) She's a bit of a porker rolleyes
