Hello there folks! My guinea pigs don’t get outside time and I feel quite bad. The reason is because that there are known to be hawks in our area and if one is hungry enough they might see our pigs as an already caught meal. I know pigs like to graze. I was thinking of giving them some grass as a treat. Can I just pick it from outside, wash it off, and give it to them?

From what I’ve heard, you can give piggies grass as long as it hasn’t been sprayed with chemicals of any kind!
I’d wait till a more experienced piggy owner replies since I’ve never fed my piggies grass xd

You need to be sure it hasn’t got any chemicals or cat or dog urine on it.

Don't give to much grass before if they have never had it. Just a bit to get their bodies used to it and slowly build up the amount you give them each day. As long as the grass hasn't been sprayed or treated with anything it'll be fine. In the hot summer when I had no grass left in my garden, I would go down my road to pick a couple of handfuls of grass each day (the grass was about 3ft tall) and gradually over about 3 weeks my piggies ate most of it before the Council came along and cut it. I did wash the grass off before I gave it to my herd.

Picked grass is 100% definitely my pigs most favourite food! I pick a bundle each day from safe places - I live in the countryside. Lots of goodness in it and natural moisture.

I pick grass for my 6 every day. Introduce it gradually as Betsy says. Its just as good as hay. My lot love it!

I have always (well since I knew about lilac guinea pigs) had a soft spot for that colouring so when I saw Rosie and her fluffy sister Cherry in a local rescue I had to adopt them!

Here they are together ready to eat some lovely hay

I give my piggies grass everyday if i haven't been out to cut some by lunchtime they aren't quiet about letting me know!
