My understanding is that each guinea pig should get about a cup of fresh veggies per day - my question is, would grass from the garden come under fresh veggies or hay...? They seem to just love it when I pick it and put it in their cage, but I wouldn't want to over-feed them.

MMM, well I would list it under 'hay' type food as in the summer when mine are out in the grass runs I still give them vitamin C rich veggies.
Grass is the best food for piggies, in the winter I sissor cut it from the garden too although it only grows slowly, this morning they all got foraged grasses, lemon balm, dandilons from the garden as I didnt have much veggies left in the fridge. After a supermarket shop at luch time I gave them some carrot with the green tops attached as they heard my bags rattling and their wheeking made me feel guilty :)) And they will be having a veggy supper in a minute too.

Grass is great but not as a substitute for high vit C veggies but can be fed as well as.

In the spring time new enriched grass grow and can cause stomach upset for some piggies if they are not used to it and care must be taken at first with the amount they comsume.

Thanks for that - they get so excited when I give it to them - how nice to be able to top up their treats, guilt-free!
