I've just recently ordered some Ings hay, from Hay for Pets. This is the first time we've tried it, and as I know a lot of you on here buy it, I wondered about all the bits of leaf and other different plant matter that is in it. Is it alright for the guineas to eat these bits? In the past, whenever I've come across the odd leaf or something unusual, I've tended to pick it out, but in this hay there are so many other bits, it would be very time consuming to remove it all. I've sort of been compromising by taking out the largest pieces.

What do you do? Maybe I'm being paranoid, and perhaps these extra bits are actually good for the guineas? This isn't meant to be a criticism, as they do seem to be enjoying this hay, and finding it very interesting. It's just very different to anything we've bought before.

Personally I didn't like the Ings because of all the twigs in it and the time spent picking them all out. I did give them all the other bits though and they seemed to love it. However I haven't bought it again because I was worried about hay poke if I missed a twig.

My boys love the meadow hay and the Timothy and rye so I just stick with that now x

Thanks for your reply! It does seem a particularly stalky / twiggy hay. The pigs like it though.

We've got a huge box to get through, but maybe I'll try the meadow hay next time!

i buy ings hay for my piggies all the time and i haven't had any problems with it, i keep the bits in because they love them and any twigs i find i give them to chew on. i love the stuff its great value, my piggies love it and i trust it much more than the pet shop stuff! :D

I use the INGs too. I must admit - it does have some bits in it which I decide to remove . I definately remove any sharp twigs. My Guinea pigs love it . I agree with KatPig - it's much nicer than the majority of hay you get in pet shops.

Very staky this time, l have been giving mine alf alfa king ,

Thanks for the reassurance, folks. Think I'll carry on just removing the largest bits of twiggy stuff, and not worry too much about the rest. It certainly is a lot better than most pet shop stuff.
