First got a young male about 2 weeks ago (black one in avatar pic) and have been bonding with it diligently. It comes when I say treat and was already eating veggies from my hand after a couple days, stands up at cage wall to see me, etc. and will sometimes popcorn when I say "GUINEA PIIIIG!", etc. Pretty friendly and a definite wheeker.

Brought home a female yesterday, that's a couple weeks younger than him if I had to guess (trying to schedule vet visit later today) and before putting her in the quarantine cage, thought I'd let him at least smell her rump for a second to know she was around. So while holding her (she's extremely calm and must have been handled a bit as she's already coming out of her box house to check my hand out while putting food & timmy hay in this morning) I let him check her out and he went on a 1.5 hour wheeking fit  last night? Is..... that normal?

Thought it'd just be cute to let them know the other existed, but he's like a love sick teen or something. I remember a first grade teacher as a kid that had a male/female in the class (somehow both made it over 7 years old w/multiple litters that were given away to students, despite how many different kids must have handled them over that time) and I don't remember them even being phased if they were separated, etc.

Has your boy been neutered?
If not then that could be a good move then after the 6 week wait to ensure no possible little surprises they can live together.
Guinea pigs are social creatures and are breeding machines so the smell of a sow will have made your boy very hopeful.

Keep us posted and show us more pics please

Is your male neutered? Before you introduce them you MUST neuter him and then wait the obligatory 6 weeks before letting him in to see her.

Haha sounds like he is keeeeen to see her.

Good luck with the neutering and the 6 week wait. It will be worth it in the long run. Just a shame that you cant explain it to them!

He's excited because he knows she's there somewhere. Tell him he'll have to hold his horses until he gets fixed! ;)

So 6 weeks is an accepted quarantine time? (both have passed a vet exam, no mites, no outward issues, eating a lot, etc.) or is that a heal-time after a fix?

Not a fan of fixing due to risks, but always open down the road. Had been thinking of rigging up a "chastity belt" tube (more like an old sock with pre-cut leg holes and extended butt-end that cover his area in question) he could walk into, let them have "safe sex" time, then part. Eventually plan to have 2 separate smaller herds (male only/female only), but that'll be later.

Yeah, she's extremely docile and gentle. I was holding him in hand, while she was in her cage, and let him check her out through the cage side. He started vibrating and making a ruckus. She she seems to dig him right away too as she came to the cage side and was closing her eyes while sniffing, so very cool to see.

6 weeks is the time post neuter to ensure there is no live semen which could impregnate your female. For reasons you are well aware of talk of breeding is against forum rules and as such you will not find an answer as to a suitable timing or solution for introducing your piggies together pre neutering.
