Hello everyone, I am new to this forum but I have a very important question that I would like clarified.

My girlfriend and I were thinking on getting a pair of cavies. Of course, before getting the guinea pigs we decided to prepare their habitat so we can bring them in comfortably. We went to the pet store and bought the largest cage we could find! ... One with dimensions 101.6 cm x 53.34 cm... We also bought the fleece bedding tailored to that size, and the toys.

The pet store workers all assured us that this cage would be big enough for two pigs, but it seems like this is not the case. In your experience, would a cage that is with those dimensions (101.6 cm x 53.34 cm) be adequate for two pigs? We're new to guinea pigs and want to make sure they are happy and healthy. Thanks in advance!

HI @HP1997 , welcome to the forum. Here is a link to the information thread about minimum cage sizes Cage Size Guide Unfortunatley I think your cage will be two small for two piggies - the minimum recommended is 120cmx60cm...is there anyway you can link it to a run to increase the space?

Sadly that would be too small :( I'd personally go back to the pet shop and return it with a mention on giving wrong information. It happens so much unfortunately!

Depending on whether you were looking to get 2 girls or 2 boys it would be minimum of 2ft by 4ft for the ladies and 2ft by 5ft for boys, but of course bigger is always better! :)

Well done for doing plenty of research first, it can be so hard when there aren't reliable places to get information.

Yeah, thanks guys. I just went to the store today and returned the cage saying it was too small. And $30 more expensive than a proper one. I bought a 2ft by 4ft cage for the piggies (they will be two females), it should be arriving in 4 days. Thanks for your input everyone! We live in a college apartment so that is the biggest we can have, but once we're out we will upgrade to a bigger cage.
