I have a boarding guinea in at the moment - she's been to the vets for weight loss (x-rays show nothing dental) so the vets have put her on Pro-Kolin+ (this is NOT Fibreplex ) but the exact same stuff I use for my dogs when they have bad stomachs!

I have to give 1ml every 8 hours and she is hating it - I don't blame her as it smells of beef (my dogs loved it) !

I can't find anywhere that Pro-Kolin+ has been used for guineas - I'm sure it should have been Fibreplex.

I am worried that the vets are wrong - they are not the vets I recommended they take the guinea to!

It's not seeming to help at the moment - her poos are still sloppy and they never went into the weight loss (over a period of months) other than she may have gas in her stomach :^- She is eating really well though.

Just worried it's the wrong stuff I'm giving her :{ and she hates it with a vengeance
 
I have no experience of the substance but the beefy smell and the fact you have been given it for dogs before sounds pretty suspect.... Might be worth ringing your own vet just for advice in the morning? If nothing else it will set your mind at rest.
 
Hi, I am no expert either but there are threads on here where people have used it for piggies. It looks like its primarily for cats and dogs but is a probiotic and restores the guts function. I would say though if you have been using it for a few days and the piggies symptoms are not any better a vets visit is best as this may not be the right medication for the problem. Hope this helps.
 
The vets gave it as a pro-biotic as she's had a GA and had an upset stomach - I understand it does act as a binding agent, however it's not doing it's job so will get her back to their vets. I suppose the beefy smell is yeasty - rather like marmite!
