I am feeding/looking after a neighbour's rabbits this week. She has left some food in the fridge, carrots, broccoli cucumber, cabbage etc.
I have no experience of rabbits so what can they eat & how much do I give them? I don't want any upset tummies :red

Thanks!

I would say a small-fair amount of fresh veg in combination with presumably hay & small-fair amount of pellets, but this depends on what else they have left you? :) I don't have rabbits at the moment but lurk on rabbit forum a lot :))

ETA: theres a list of safe/reccommended plants(and veggies down the bottom) here: http://www.rabbitnutrition.co.uk/page1.html

Thanks! Well there is broccoli & cucumber as well in the fridge..... not sure if they can have those? Also they can have carrots can't they, not just the tops?

I have only given them a small amount today, a carrot between them & a cabbage leaf seems a bit mean but I don't want to overfeed them. They get two handfuls of pellets twice a day as well. I put them out on the grass this morning once it was dry for a bit too, but I won't put them out if the grass is wet, I guess that will be okay? I've only ever had piggies, although we did have a rabbit when I was about 2 :)

Hi I hope I am not too late to help you. Rabbits need an unlimited supply of hay like guinea pigs. One handful of vegetables a day is all they need. Any more and they stop eating hay and seem to get G.I like my poor bunny did. I give him some herbs or vegetables in the morning and that is all for the day. You need to put their nuggets in a bowl for them not on the floor as they should have a whole bowl. I would say two cabbage leaves is enough for one rabbit. They can have carrots.

Thanks Piggyfan, that's great! I was very worried about GI as my piggy died from gut problems after bloat so am a bit paranoid at the mo rolleyes

Sounds like I am doing everything right then :))

Hello

I too am looking after my friends rabbits this week. I also I have my own two rabbits :)

You are correct about the nuggets....it is one egg cup of nuggets for each rabbit a day. So I give them one egg cup amount to share in the morning and the same at night....but split in two bowls.

Hay is hugely important so make sure they have lots!

Grass is great for bunnies too....my pair of rabbits do go out when the grass is damp but they are free range and can come back in the house when they want. Rabbits are higher of the ground that piggies.

I wouldn't give the bunnies carrot or cucumber as gives them a dodgy tummy. But a small selection of the other stuff should be fine.

Hope that helps :)
