Wanted to ask rescues on here how many do not neuter male piggies?
We do not neuter sows but do the males. We made this decision to prevent breeding and also to make bonding to sows possible, which is easier than a boar to boar, generally.
So can rescues say if they don't neuter and why not please?
How many that don't have male bondings break down and piggies returned?

I generally do not neuter - only once in the past 7 years. Though I do plan to have 2-3 done very soon as they have proved to be too rude (constant, relentless humping) to allow anyone to bond with them, despite being over the hormonal stage - even the most placid boar gets fed up at being used in such a way.

I run a boar dating service quite successfully bonding adult males - I much prefer using males past the hormonal stage. Approx 80% of guests find a friend on their first visit where they meet up to 4 different males, chosen to complement the personality of the guest piggy. If they fail to find a friend a second visit is arranged when a new selection is tried. If this fails then the option of a baby boar or neutering is discussed. Very few opt for neutering.

Stats wise it breaks down to roughly 80% find a partner on first visit; approx half of the remaining 20% have success on the second round of dates; and most of the rest opt to wait for a baby boar or another round of dates.

Not every bonding works for life - I estimate that 95% do work (compared to 80% of baby/adult), I do hear of a few that break down but the pigs are very rarely returned as we work hard on rebonding or finding new partners in the future as the families that have adopted them do not want to hand their babies back.

In almost 10 yrs of rescuing I've taken in around 600 males, I think a total of 8 were neutered (too many post op complications so I stopped having them done). There were 8 single males that were too aggressive to bond (4 here, 4 out on long term foster) though now all but one have been paired up as they matured and met the right pig.

The BDS thread I have running covers a couple of years of dates - the good and the bad. I can find you the link if you think it may be of use.
