we have 2 of the 3 tiered 120 cages and have 2 piggies in each level, at the moment they are are all in same room as we have the 2 cages opposite each other both cages have boars and sows in ovsiosly not together, we have got 2 boars booked in at a local vets who are very good with piggies they are due to be castrated as they really dont get on with each other or the others thats why they have lived alone so far, when they have all recovered etc i will be putting them with the sows we have still keeping 2 in each 120 cage as not big enough for anymore in each, would it be best to put the cage with the sows plus castrasted boars into another room, and then keep the cage with all boar pairs where they are, just wondering if it will cause problems when the sows come into season as the boars in pairs are fine with each and wouldnt want to cause anything to make them argue
thanks in advance

If the boars don't get on now, it's unlikely they will do so after neutering, and if you put both in together with sows as well, you are almost guaranteed a fight! Or do you mean to keep the boys separate with a group of wives each?
Make sure to wait 6 weeks after the neutering before putting boys and girls together.

Hi Sarah, I assume from your post you meant that once the 2 boars are neutered you will pair each one with a piggy wife, not 2 boars plus wives?

I have had pairs of girls, pairs of bonded boys and a netuered boy and his wives in different cages in the same room and have never experienced any problems with the bonded entire boys. I generally had boys in the top cages and girls below, thus avoiding any girly hay etc. falling into the boys cages. I also made a point of sorting out the boys first before moving on to the rest of the gang thus avoiding wafting lovely girly smells under the boys noses!:))

Hope that helps

sorry should have made it more clear, the 2 boars are father and son, the dad will be going in with one of the mums, and the son will be going in with one of his sisters, i read recently to leave them 6 weeks so thats good as i thought it was 4 weeks!
thats a good idea about putting the girls on a lower level, and not to waft any smells into the boys cages, also i read recently that putting boys out in a run first before girls otherwise they will smell the girls
