So, I am still very undecided On the getting another guinea pig subject, I feel completely hurt at the moment over Rodney.

However I had a reply back from a rescue as I put the feelers out and they suggested a baby is the best option.

I always feel this is not the best option as the baby may grow up dominant andas Billy is also dominant this would not end well.

What is the general opinion, and I am sure I asked this last time when I had this dilemma over Rodney! Baby, or another adult IF I go ahead and adopt Billy a friend..

Opinions?

Could you travel as far as Sidmouth to @Little Pips Rehoming? She offers full boar dating if you are happier with that. I know that is is a long a distance, but it would be worth it.

Right now is the time to just do your research and check out possibilities; don't put yourself under too much pressure; after all you just have got Rodney's ashes back and Billy is thankfully not acutely pining.

Mostly boar dating at a rescue is a question of a) experience and especially b) available time. Adult boar dating takes several days and is very time consuming, so by far not every rescue has the resources to do it.

I am really sorry for your loss. In an ideal world I am sure that you'd prefer an older male around Billy's age however I can see why a rescue has suggested the baby as it is common that the older pig takes on 'uncle pig'. I can say from bonding lots of boars (my own) though that this doesn't always happen. I got lucky with Herbert and Kevin, and even they squabble. Clive beforehand though was a nightmare to bond, even as a baby. Although as they would be from a rescue I'm sure you could trial it first, just in case the worst happened. As said above, boar dating is ideal for this.

If you are still hurting though maybe it is best for you to grieve first. I am sure that Billy will understand, he is a very well loved piggie.
