Hi, Nala has baytril for her ear infection but the vet said she doesn't need probiotics. I disagree so I've bought the pro c probiotic from vet ark. It says it can be sprinkled on food at one scoop per 300g. Do I therefore have to get Nala 300g of food or can I just put a small amount on a piece of veg? She doesn't drink much water so putting it in her bottle won't be much good

Thanks Lisa x

I've used this several times - isn't it one scoop per 300ml of water? Alternatively, you can sprinkle it over food.

I usually wash my piggy's veggies in water, but don't dry them (so that they stay nice and wet). Then sprinkle around half a scoop of the powder over the veg - it should dissolve. They usually like the taste.

It says I can also use one scoop in 200ml of water, I'll try the half scoop over their veg, suppose it won't do Katie any harm if she eats it too. Thanks for the advice. X

You may find that by putting it in the water she will drink more. Unlike vitamin c, which makes the water taste awful and discourages drinking, soluble probiotics actually taste quite nice. If you do this though, you need to change the water every day as the 'good' bacteria in probiotics can very quickly turn bad.

Either in the water or on the wet veg is fine. Don't worry about an exact amount either - I've sprinkled around 3/4 of a scoop over a large bowl of veggies :)

I am giving probiotic at the moment and give by syringe (it needs to be an hour or so after the Baytril) and am finding I have a little queue of pigs waiting for their turn. Millie even patted me on the leg to get my attention so she could have the syringe last night. I think it tastes nice so they don't mind having it.

How much do you dissolve to put in the syringe? I only have 1ml syringes. She had her baytril at 10pm so have been waiting to give her her evening veg, fair to say they are getting rather impatient, lol.
I've also noticed her ear has been bleeding again where it was all scabbed over before, it's not actively bleeding but it's quite obvious she's either scratched it or been bitten again. Really hope it's heals soon

I mix it up in a cup or jug according to the instructions and keep it in a dark place for the day and then throw away. I get through quite a lot throughout the day though.
