If they are thirsty enough I think they can but most piggies prefer bottles. I have given mine bowls in the past during floor time etc but I have never actually seen them drink from it, just tip it over mallethead

Mine do. They have a bowl of water by their nuggets as they like to drink from their while munching on nuggets. They also have water bottles but use them at other times.

I guess its what they get used to, all of mine up until the last two had bottles, but I lost my two old girls within a fortnight, both of the new girls came from a friend who had bowls for hers, my gorgeous Tinkerbell didnt have the time to teach her companion how to use the bottle as opposed to the bowl. So bowl it was!

Bottles are more convenient & get less messy, but bowls are easier to stop freezing in the cold weather - with bottles the spout always needs checking its not frozen solid. Also in any weather if you under fill them the bottles tend to drip.
in warmer weather Bowls can be used as paddling pools - probably not very hygenic- but was great fun for my piggies! @)

Yes, mine won't drink from water bottles, only bowls. They get dirty quickly but I wash them every morning and eveniing.

Brill news, smudged cage is too big for the living room now my tree is up so has been banished to the kitchen on a night but is allowed free roam of my living room through the day and as i have no where to fix his bottle to it will have to be a bowl xx

I have never had a problem with them tipping over, you can get heavy ceramic bowls from the poundshop. (:

i'm using a ramekin dish at the minute :) xx

I've used those successfully! My boys always used to drink from bowls. It is probably more natural for them if you think about how they would drink water in the wild. And I remembered from my hamster days what a pain those bottles can be. But, purely for my own convenience (less messy) I switched to hanging bottles when I discovered a type that was not really a bottle - flip top water containers that never leak and are really easy to clean. The boys drink just as much from their new "bottles" as they did from their bowls. I don't think it matters to most piggies what the water is in so long as they can get at the water.

One of my piggies seems to prefer a bowl i thought it might be because its less effort than the bottle!? I use this plastic bowlthat is very stable and neither of mine have ever knocked it over.
