Hi all. Hope someone can help.

Yesterday, I adopted a little boy, Buddy, who is 6-7 months old. I already have a little girl called Maisy. They are in seperate cages.

Buddy keeps trying to chew his cage (they are both in seperate nero 3's). In the pet shop, I saw a spray which stops animals chewing. Has anyone used this before? Does this work or is there an easier way? At the moment, his cage is next to Maisy's and he seems to be chewing the side of the cage next to Maisy. This may be because he wants to get to Maisy? Is there anything I can do?

All advice appreciated :{

Thank you x

most piggies will chew there cages so don't worry. when ours will not stop and it drives me mad I find taken them out of the cage and giving them a big cuddle works.

I would think it would be better to move his cage so that he can't smell or see Maisy - he's probably very frustrated and wanting to get to her! Either stack the cages or maybe put him in a different room.

Chew spray isn't really for piggies, I haven't ever tried it but think it would be a waste of money.

Make sure he's got plenty to entertain himself - loo rolls stuffed with hay, etc. to take his mind off it.

Is the plan to get them friends?

i wouldn't get the spray to stop him gnawing on the bars but thats just me iw ont risk my guinea pig falling ill from it ... does he have anything to gnaw on while hes in his cage it could be bordem not just been next to her cage maybe if he has not enough items to keep him occupied? ... try and move them a bit further away from each other? is he going to be housed with her later on?

I've not used the spray so can't comment. I'd say he's wanting to get to Maisy & am assuming he's not neutered so can't live with her? As for stopping him you could try moving his cage away from hers but there's no guarantee he will.

mine chew their cage but it does no damage - or hasn't yet anyway! might be interested in a spray because it does wake me up in the night sometimes! However, I think it might be good for their teeth to keep them the right length so will be interested in what people have to say!

He is more than likely wanting to get at the loverly lady too x)x)x)

Give him some of his favourite food, cage bars suddenly lose their attraction.

Thanks :).

I think because its the metal he is chewing, the sound goes straight through me :)) ! I also wasnt sure about his teeth?

Thanks for your help x

I must admit, I had never seen the spray before. It said it was for dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs? Think I might avoid it :). I like the idea of loo rolls with hay. Very good idea.

I originally had 2 little girls but one passed away after 5 weeks. I am devastated. I took little Maisy to the vets for a health check after her sister passed away and asked if I should get her a friend. The vet said yes. After going to the pet shop, they said because Maisy had been on her own for a week or 2, they wouldnt advise me getting her a friend.

Because I work during the day, I wanted Maisy to have a friend who she could talk to and then eventually, after getting Buddy neutered, will try and make them friends. I have been told though that Buddy should be a lone pig.

Thanks for your help x

In his cage, he has a gnawing ball, a big tube which he sits in and gnaws and wooden chews.

I would like them to be together at some point bit have been told he needs to a lone pig :( x

He isnt neutered but I may do this in the future. Ive only had him for less than 24 hours so I will see how he gets on. He is doing really well so far :) x

I hadnt seen the spray before but I know my sister uses it for her little rescue dog because she has a tendancy to eat stones :)) !

My Maisy seems to be giving him the cold shoulder lol ! x

There aren't any guarantees if he is neutered that he & Maisy will get on but you could ( if you think he wants company) try him with a baby boy IF you move Maisy far enough away so as not to cause upset. It may be that he just hasn't found his compatible friend yet :)

I'd also say as you've had him such a short time, he's still settling in & Maisy being close by is exciting him, he wants her attention to "chat" :(|)

it sounds to me like he has other ideas... I bet by the time he gets neutered, he'll have so totally fallen for Maisy that he'll be just fine. Chewing the bars is I think a way of communicating, I wouldn't worry. My first GP used to do that, we used to put a tea towel over the cage and she'd fall asleep...
