Quick question about eating habits...

Well, a quick update...

It's been two weeks, and little Estelle has been through the wars. We've been back and forth to the vets, she's had lancings, ops, meds, care... eugh.

The first operation went well, but her appetite disappeared. She went to the wonderful Piggy Hospital for some recuperation, and thanks to the incredible efforts of my mam, her weight picked up and she returned to eating normally.

Sadly, though, despite the baytril and daily saline flushing, a second lump quickly formed. We've cleared that one, and been through seemingly endless rounds of saline flushing, wound re-opening, baytril, metacam and more, and now we're at an impasse.

Poor little Estelle, despite an incredible display of courage and fight, has got a third abscess, probably underneath her cheek muscle. So we're back at the vet tomorrow.

Healing vibes would be enormously welcome at this point x

Please ask your vet to consider changing antibiotic to Zithromax. Unfortunately baytril really isn't up to the job when dealing with abscesses. I've dealt with many abscesses very quickly and easily when using Zithromax. It sounds like you're doing a great job but without the appropriate antibiotic you are really struggling.

If your vet wanted to speak with mine re dosage etc he can be contacted as follows:-

Update

Little Estelle is still with us!

It's been a very long time since I last posted, and 4 months since Estelle first became ill, but (with huge fingers crossed) we think we're finally coming to the end of it all.

After endless syringing, saline, meds, vet trips and care, we managed to get her onto Zithromax a few weeks ago. It has made all the difference - thanks to FurryFriends for the invaluable advice and offers of care, and everyone who wished us well.

The abscess has now all but gone, and there is no pus coming out. We just have a couple of ugly-looking scabs to keep an eye on, and we're still going with the meds until we think she's 100%, but her weight is up, she's filling out again, and (touch wood) is on the road to recovery.

What a journey, though. The cost... the pain and effort she and us have had to go through... when (hopefully not if) she makes a full recovery, I will try and write a more detailed account of how this abscess and subsequent battle has transpired. In the meantime, thanks again to the Forum, and all those kind members who have helped us. Also thanks to Nurse of The Herds, and her manuka obsession...

Here is Estelle having brekkie a few days ago. Bless her!

Another month on, and Estelle is back to her fighting fittest. She's packed on weight almost back to her pre-illness level, and there is no trace of any lump or abscess or even any scar. She's as cheeky as can be.

The wonders of Zithromax, patient and loving care, and a very determined and forgiving piggy.

Thanks once again for all the kind words and advice - it has been a huge help.
