Weighed my piggies again the other day, bad piggie mum, didnlt realise it had been 6 weeks since the last weigh in.

Anyway Lilly had lost 12 grams, is this alot of weight to lose in 6 weeks? He has been absolutely fine, eating, drinking, paying etc all as normal so i know he's not unwell. And still weighs 1.2kg just over, if my scales are correct.

Just wondered a) if 12 grammes is alot? and b) if 1.2kg is a healthy weight? he certianly doesn't seem fat, everything seems well in proportion for his size.

Thanks

me either 30g can be the difference in a full and empty bladder :)

I do their weighs when i do the BIG clean out every saturday morning....it's so easy........clean out and before they go back in i weight them. BUT if i'm at all concerned (i do this regularly cause i'm a worry wort) i do weight them in between. It's just a matter of getting into a habit :)

30g is nothing but if this is lost each week i'd be wanting to know why and see a vet pronto. 1.2kg is a nice weight....... i like my girls to be over the 1kg in case of illness!

I usually do it more often, i'd had problems with my scales but i didn;t realise i had left it so long! Toffee is still growing and is catching Lilly up and my micro GP is half the weight of them LOL bless her!

honestly the time flies by!

but what i do is in my diary ( i lurve my diary) i mark down all weights and anything else!
you could start a piggie diary :) very handy if you notice anything you can then tell your vets....... -c

I dont keep a diary Lol, but i have a note pad where i have recorded the date and each weights etc. a Piggy diary is a good idea though...

if you have not many pigs much easier to check if they eats every time you give them food.I have 4 - so always looking that all pigs eating normal.
normal eating more important than checking weight because you see problem before precious start losing weight.

Just weighed them again, poor piggies they hate it lol

Minnie is 832g (she'll be 3 in jan)
Lilly is 1262g (he is just over 3)
Toffee is 1145g (she will be a year in jan)

How do these weights seem? Minnie is just minnie, she is well proportioned and not skinny or anything, just small.

Thanks

they sound fine to me, mine weight between 975g and 1265g and range between 12 months - 2 and a half years old :)

Hey there, it's a trend that you look for with weight loss, e.g losing 40g each weigh etc....

30g loss one weigh could be a toilet visit but if they lost 30g the next weigh, alarm bells would start to sound.

The important thing is to weigh regulary at the same time so always after tea or before tea. We weigh the girls every wednesday after they have had tea in their run. If you suspect any problems you can then weigh everyday to check.
