Not seen any skinny local to me, but always seeing guinea pigs on sale on these sights, tried to help one get homed by putting a link on here, just for it to be deleted, this adverts break my heart, so much for me trying to help one get a better home
I went through the same thing. I didn't realise we weren't aloud to link them.

I message the people and point them here. I always say if they are serious about rehoming then love and care should overtake money. Most say they charge to alleviate people who may not look after them as they think if they have to pay then they will want to care prop. Sadly this isn't in most cases true, so by telling them about the forum then they hopefully will come and join and try to rehome here.

I'm not sure the exact reasons why we can't link.

that's a good idea. Why didnt I think of that? I keep away from those site as it is a Bit heart breaking.

It says we can not do link to free sites, which is stupid. i Can understand if the pet is up for free as that is not right, but the one i linked was for sale, and thought it would get a lovely home from here. I only go on them to rescue hamster as done before, but none at the moment but a lot of guinea pigs which is sad, i would of taken them if did not have loads of furniture to buy and not sure if have space yet

I believe it's due to it being a pro-rescue site, and although it obviously could be rescuing them, they are not strictly rescue piggies and many of the pigs on these sites come from breeders and the forum doesn't wish to encourage breeders. If you are ever in doubt of the safety of pigs for sale, you can contact rescues and see if they can offer any help.

Hope this helps your understanding of the issue :) x

I'm allergic to my boys I found out after getting them...but thats my fault for not checking...but I love them and wont ever give them up for something that's not their fault. I just take antihistamines every day! Although tonight it did not work ....I get severe hives neck to tummy button..oh well! Haha. In an hour I will look like a big stinging nettle victim!

I'm incredibly allergic to my two boys, I also wouldn't give them away for anything, unless I couldn't afford the correct and needed care. As you say, it's not their fault and there's a reason anti-histamines were produced! I'm looking into getting allergy shots though, need to read up on them a bit more first.

I have really bad eczema on my hands and eye lids due to the allergy, but hey, there's always eczema cream :D

Well sorry that is stupid, as they allow people to post when they need to rehome thier own guinea pigs, which is no different to these sites, and all the ones i find are just normal people finding they can no longer look after thier guinea pigs, and not breeders and was being pro-rescue as they needing rescuing, i would never post ones to breeders, as all my guinea pigs and pets have come from people on these sites that can no longer look after them or have had poor care

That's true people can rehome their pigs on here, I completely get where your coming from, but I'm simply a member I don't make the rules.

Also, on some other sites people repeatedly post ad's and it can clog everything up, and much of them will end up being breeders as you see a group of ten piggies in what could only be described as a litter tray and people feel bad for them. And then there's the fact that if your getting them on adverts, your not getting them from rescues that are full of piggies needing homes and that's what they want people to do.

It's awkward, confusing and sometimes the points don't really add up. I've just gone on what I've been told by others. Maybe talk to the admin if you don't agree with it?

If you have an issue with this can always discuss with staff

There is a difference as people rehoming here are either giving up with love and care intended or rehoming places. Most of the links via those sites are asking for money. My personal opinion is if you really care about rehoming your animals to give them the best life you feel you cant...why charge money? They may as well be breeding!

It is not a stupid rule and is a long standing rule that has always been thought about very seriously by staff, discussed regularly and reviewed. It exists for this main reason we are a rescue friendly forum and support several rescues that re-home via this website, if we allowed free-ads the forum would be flooded and detract from rescues that we are trying to support.
We ask the rules of the forum are respected and know that sometimes people will post free-ads because they want to help, we remove these in accordance to the rules that were agreed to on the signing up of accounts.

I understand these ad's can be heartbreaking and is why I personally stay away from sites like those. Perhaps there is value is messaging people who advertise on these sites and try to help them rehome by pointing them in the direction of a reputable rescue - but that is for another debate. But what is not open for debate is the forums stance on Free-ads.

Thank you Lee for clarifying. Appreciated.
