I lost my Ginger yesterday. He was amazing. So confident and loud. He loved to cuddle with me. He laid down on my pillows whenever I let him on my bed and just relaxed with me. He would climb up onto the top of the couch and look out the window. He would "talk" to me, always wheeking. Now when I walk into my room it's so quiet...I can't take it. My other guinea pig Olaf is really quiet. And the new guinea pig I got (pictured in my avatar) is new and unsure so of course he is too. It's so weird. Ginger was only 2 years old. I have no idea what happened. He was fine yesterday morning and dead when I came home from work. I have cried so much since then. Can anyone help me understand what happened? I feel so guilty. I had no idea this would happen and I just want to hold him one more time.

Also, when I upload a picture do I have to post an image link or is there a different way? I want to post a picture but I'm new here and can't figure it out

I am ever so sorry for your loss! Sadly, heart attacks and strokes can strike at any time of the life, very much out of the blue and without warning. I have lost two young piggies that were even slightly younger than Ginger to sudden acute heart failure; even rushing them to the vets asap as an emergency didn't change the outcome, if that is any consolation to you! Four weeks ago it was one of my elderly temporary fosters for a friend that I found in her forever sleep coming back from the vets with two of my own piggies... :(

The fact that you cannot brace for it and are left with some major and unanswerable questions makes coping with the pain of the loss itself so much harder. Please don't feel like it is due to anything you missed out on anything - there wasn't anything for you to miss out on. Feelings of having failed somehow are typical for the onset of the grieving process.

You have clearly given Ginger all your love and have made his life happy. We cannot choose how long our piggies are given to live, but we can give them the best of lives while they live!

Thank you so much. I really appreciate it and I definitely will

You can either upload via the "upload a file" button under your post or copy/past an otherwise already uploaded picture directly into your post.

He is very handsome, you clearly love him very much. I'm sorry for your loss :(

Thank you very much! I did love him dearly. I cannot believe that he's gone. He was such a ray of sunshine on even my worst days :luv:

I'm very sorry for your loss! Ginger looks and sounds like a beautiful piggie! Unfortunately small animals can pass so quickly. You may never know the cause exactly, but my vet has said that a lot of quick deaths in relatively young pigs are due to heart attack/stroke. It's not something that shows any early warning signs. A friend of mine lost a 2-year-old pig just like that about a year ago. Again, so sorry for your loss. ((HUGS.))

This is true...my boyfriend actually searched stuff about sudden unexpected deaths in guinea pigs before I even did and that's what he said. I just wanted some answers. :( I feel like it had to have been something like that. It was so unexpected. I just got done sobbing (again). Thank you ❤️

Thank you so much! They really do. Some people would be like really?! It's just a guinea pig and I would have to smack them because they don't understand! Haha

Thank you! Here's another picture. I'm going to miss his little piggy smile so much. It's also way too quiet when I walk into my room. He was always the talkative one image.webp

So sorry for the loss of your Stunning piggy. Massive hugs

Sleep well little one

RIP Ginger
