Sadly we lost Smartie today, he wasn't even 2 yet. We got Smartie and his brother Rolo in May 2009, they were only 4 weeks old the plan was to hopefully integrate them with Patches our 3 and a half year old boar who sadly lost his brother.
We lost Patches just before Christmas and now losing Smartie so soon after is just too much for my poor hubby especially, he has now said no more piggies as far too upsetting. I've said it wouldn't be fair to keep Rolo on his own so we would have to find him another home. I'm really hoping he'll change his mind but not to optimistic. :(

oh i hope he changes his mind too, there are so many needing homes and personally i think its the best thing to help you move on in life, but not forget you little loved lost ones.

So sorry you lost one.

Rip Smartie, run free xxxxxxxx

I hope he changes his mind. Sweet dreams little Smartie.

So sorry, we lost our pig this weekend also. I understand totally how you feel.

Very sorry...

RIP Smartie

Poor Smartie - his life may have been short, but it was filled with love and happiness!

I am so sorry; I lost a piggy that was not even two years old last summer when her heart suddenly gave out. It can happen, but it is a great shock! I still got another piggy; there are simply too many rescue piggies needing a good home. My philosophy is that you treasure the time they have got with you and make it as happy as you can.

Sadly, the way most piggies are carelessly bred just for the sake of money nowadays makes for generally much shorter lifespans than for example the piggies of my childhood.

I am just losing the oldest piggy of the eleven rescues I have, a four year old, to cancer. It never gets any easier to see them die, but I know that my boy has had a happy life far beyond his wildest dreams and that for all the joy he has brought me, I am now paying the price. Yet, my life would be so much poorer without!

RIP Smartie - you were very much loved and are now very much missed!

Thanks all, I think it was the rollorcoaster my hubby found especially hard, I knew on Wednesday he wasn't right, hubby took him straight to the vet Thursday morning, saying we suspected bladder stones (had lost a piggy previously to this), vet checked him over said he was a bit tender, then spotted a few drops of blood, so x-rayed, diagnosed stones, operated, couldn't find any stones, re-x-rayed and discovered the 'stones' were actually in his gut as had moved now. So poor little piggy had an op he didn't need (I don't blame the vets, have every faith in them our Rodentologist works there, having seen the x-rays myself it definitely appeared that there were stones in the bladder)

We took him home Thursday evening but unfortunately wasn't convinced he was drinking (I syringed water in his mouth to try to hydrate him) and didn't seem to be eating much on Friday, so took him back first thing Saturday morning, they rang Saturday at 10pm to say he'd eaten and poohed, then Sunday morning to say eaten and poohed but not weed, so they felt thay had to x-ray again and whilst doing he sadly died. :(

I'm so sorry for your loss.
RIP precious Smartie. Run free x
