Cuddles With Cavies
Junior Guinea Pig
Firstly, I apologise for this thread being about a critter with a fluffy tail and not a piggies but this bunny really needs our help and I have no idea what to do.
Okay, so let's start at the beginning. I do some volunteering at a Childrens farm. We've recently had a boom of baby rabbits and guinea pig because the previous staff couldn't sex them. Fortunately, we've got the guineas under control now as I can sex them.
Anyway, because of all the babies, we ended up having to put some boy baby guinea pigs in with a white female rabbit with two litters.
One guinea pig decided it wasn't happy and took it out on one of the baby rabbits. It ended up with a huge bite on its back which has now doubles in size! I believe that it's turned into an abcesse.
To cut a long story short, the staff at the farm are saying that they've not got the money to take it to the vets and it'd be better to just put it down. But me being the animal lover I am, am kind of thinking that I'll offer to take it and I'll look after it.
So I researched rabbit abcesses as I know they can be a pain and a lot of people said that you couldn't get rid of abcesses for good and that they would keep coming back.
So my question is, should I try and save this rabbit or will its life just be full of trips to the vets, painful proceeders and nasty tasting medication? Is that a life worth living for a rabbit or is it kinder to just put it to sleep?
Again, I'm sorry this isn't guinea related but I don't know who else to ask.
