i gotta get active on here soon again :)):))
ran out of guinea pig food a few days ago, pellets are usually (and sadly) a big part of my boar's diet, as the vegetables usually have bugs IN them, so I cant even wash them.
deciding to grow my own vegetables, but obviously, they haven't grown yet, so the boys have gotten fond of pellets. ( very bold of me, ill hop them on a diet straight away when vegetables are good.)
But I've looked around my whole town for some guinea pig food, nothing! and the pet shop was closed.
They were given some apple and banana this morning.
all I could pick up was some rabbit pellets, so I'm wondering if that would be the same?
Many thanks.
Also, if not ill take them off it.

I don't think rabbit food has the extra vitamin C in that guinea pig food has. Hay should make up 80% of a piggies diet so being without pellets for a few days won't be that bad. Have you tried any supermarkets they usually have some gp food in of some description. Can you supplement with well washed grass?

Hi! 80% of the daily food intake should be hay, hay and more unlimited hay. About 10% should a balanced veg mix. cut the veg into chunks or strips and wash these to remove any bugs. You should only feed 1 tablespoon of pellets per piggy per day and piggies can live without pellets for a few days or even long term, provided you feed some balanced dry forage.
Please read our diet guide. A good diet can really make all the difference in long term health and life expectancy.
Plan your pet supplies and order in time.
Long Term Balanced General And Special Needs Guinea Pig Diets

Rabbit pellets are no proper replacement as rabbits can make their own vitamin C and have different needs re. other vitamins and food requirements like roughage etc. Guinea pigs on long term rabbit pellets inevitably end up with scurvy (vitamin C deficiency) and malnutrition.

If they have hay to eat, then pellets can be left out a bit.

My piggies get veggies three times a day and I read if piggies get enough veggies then pellets can be left out. Although my piggies get enough veggies, they like munching on pellets so I always buy Oxbow pellets along with their Kaytee hay.

Rabbit pellets are a definite no -no. Best to order your piggy pellets and have them delivered. As 80% of the diet is hay then as long as you have hay and some veggies you can wait for pellets for a couple of days.

You might also be able to get hold of some fresh grass around the town in the mean time? Can’t do any harm at all and I’m sure it will go down well! Avoid rabbit pellets at all costs.
