My mom just threw a bunch of radish leaves into the pig cage without asking me :/ are they okay for them to eat? (they were already devoured by the time I found out)
I hope you've asked your Mum nicely if she could refrain from doing that in the future - if it had been onions, potatos, tomato leaves or something similar you could have ended up with some very poorly piggies and your Mum with some very big vets bills! Glad that they're okay..phew!
Yeah, I told her to stop doing that and I also gave her a bag in the fridge of safe vegetables that she can feed them if she likes. She's also had a problem of feeding carrots without asking me in the past -.- I had to explain to her how they can get very overweight and sick from overfeeding carrots. How is she going to take care of these guys when I go to college?
maybe you should get your mum to join the forum, I must admit I knew next to nothing when I first got my two girls and now I have 4 piggies and believe that I do everything I can to give them a perfect life. Wouldn't have been possible without this place though
Yes, get her to join the forum. Give her some piggie books to read and write her a do's and don't list. That should help steer her in the right direction. I'm sure once she's taking care of them she'll become completely smitten by them and start wanting to find out more anyway!
Yes, that's why it's a relief. The issue was Tarajets Mum giving the guinea pigs food without first checking if it was suitable! inbreeding
Btw: if anyone's suffering from a radish glut ( they do grow rather fast don't they?! ) you can use the radishes and the leaves in a pasta sauce - there's a recipe in Sarah Raven's book, but it just as easy to make your own - best blitz the leaves tho' once they've simmered otherwise they're a bit chewy for our hooooman teeth.
I think if she makes it clear to her mom they can basically eat anything but red cabbage (atleast that's told in the Netherlands) and union family members, as long as she gives little bits at time, I'm quite sure the pets will be in heaven.
