Spotted this ready made C&C cage in another thread on here and like the look of it.

However, I would need to raise it off the floor and also enclose it as I have 2 big dogs in the house.

Any suggestions on how I go about this, bearing in mind I have never "done" C&C before and also bearing in mind, I like this as it is attractive at the moment and would like to keep it that way

This is on an American site not sure if you can get them ready made in the UK.

Maybe the only secure way to get it high enough is on it's own table. I brought a table similar to a pasting table which I plan to put a C&C cage onto to ensure that my dog can't annoy the piggies. The table cost £27 and is pretty sturdy. Alternatively if you are making the cage from scratch you can use extra grids as a base but that will only raise it 14" from the ground.

Yeh, I KNOW it is a US ebay seller :(|)

Paste table sounds a good idea.

tricky isn't it.

I wouldn't be actually buying THAT cage, it was just the ideal layout for the space I have and therefore a good template to build on.

I've now also figured out how to enclose the cage ...

(courtesy of having too much time on my hands and messing around on paint ...) (click to enlarge images below)

The first image is the original cage .. the second image is my version with "lid" would this work?

can I ask whether in peoples experiences the "lid" would need support from underneath or do they hold themselves up well enough ... also ideas for what to use for an operating lid?

I know that in the US they are particularly keen on C&C cages and I believe that they make an opening lid or cover from shelving that can be brought and cut to size, attaching it with cable ties. I've tried to find a similar product online but can't find anything in the UK. The site below does ship cage kits to the UK but due to the weight it may end up quite expensive although they don't appear to do kits with tops but there are instructions for how to do it available.

If you click on the Store option at the top of the page, there you can buy cage kits.

Hope this is of some use!:)

If you are using a pasting table or anything elevated then be aware to make sure that all grids are tied together securely and I would also put grids over the top (the mesh ones) so you have no olympic guineas getting out. Radley can actually jump 1 foot (height of the grid) so he and Sunshine are in a 4x2 cage! I can't chance it with him! lol

www.guineapigcages.com shows you all sorts of designs in the galleries. There are details on making a top on this page too. Look at the sticky at the top for details on where to get the parts to make a C&C cage.

I agree with Louise on securing it - each grid will need to be cable tied together as if they aren't it's very easy to knock them apart.
