Me and my dad are planning on making our own tunnel for the ramp in my piggies hutch. Before we go ahead with it I just wanted to know how successful they are. Do they get piggies to use the ramp?

Mine use the ramp with the tunnel on it, but then I think they used it when it just had fleece on it :{ It does tend to work though :)

My ramp just has carpet stuck to the base and they whizz up and down all day long. ;)

Thanks for your replies! One of my pigs will whiz up and down no problem but the other will not go anywhere near it so I though a tunnel would encourage her to use it?

I've got one and they love it. They would use the ramp before I got it but much more cautiously - now they zoom up and down. Piggies love tunnels so it is very likely to help encourage yours to use it!

Hazelnut refused to use his ramp no matter what I tried, even after 2 months. Peanut Butter, on the other hand used to zoom up and down at breakneck speed worrying me about falling off. But because Hazelnut did not go upstairs at all Peanut Butter did not use the ramp that much.

I got a ramp tunnel and it solved both problems. Hazelnut was using the ramp within 24 hours and Peanut Butter was slowed down.

Now they sleep upstairs and use the downstairs for everything else.

Yes, when I used a 2 storey hutch, we had a ramp tunnel with fleece on the inside and the boys loved it. The only risk was that if one fell asleep in the tunnel they would get a rude awakening when the other one zoomed up behind them! They would not do the ramp without the tunnel though.

my 2 wouldn't use the ramp in their cage at all, so i got a tunnel ramp from cosy cavies, and they loved it :) when i got their hutch they wouldn't use the ramp in that either so i had to get another one! haha! definately worth it, it makes them more confident with ramps and it makes it safer for them and their stumpy little legs too x

Mine had never had a ramp or anything like that....then

I used a tunnel attached to their wooden stick hidey thing...so they jumped in the hidey then into the tunnel which took them to the next level. They loved it because they could perch on the hidey and dash into the tunnel if they felt frightened to the upstairs.

Now I just have plastic square guttering with carpet and they soon got the hang of it probably because they knew what was upstairs.

Thanks for your replies everyone! This have definatly persuaded me to go ahead with my plans! My plans are to cut a large postal tube in half then attach it to the sides of the ramp to form a tunnel do you think this is a good idea?

I think the problem is grip and urine, hard to clean and go soggy.

Oops i dont think i made myself very clear :)). That won't be a problem because the tube is being cut in half and secured to the sides of the ramp therefore the piggies won't actually be walking on the tube, they will be walking on the actual ramp. Hope that's a bit clearer now.

That sounds fine for a tunnel. But if your piggies like to chew cardboard as mine do they will gnaw on the ends. I tried making a cardboard tunnel and that's what happened. The postal tube cardboard isn't dangerous for piggies to chew on, you just end up with ragged edges. When mine got too tatty I ended up getting the fabric ramp tunnels from cosy cavies.

Yeah I think they probably will chew it but when/if it gets to tatty I will either replace it or buy a cosie cavies one :)) thanks x

I've got big like straw tunnels got them from trago mills. My two use them fine before they wouldn't use the ramps at all. They do chew them but not too badly so think they will last a while before i need to replace them.

The tunnel is now fixed in place and ready to use! I have not yet used it but am planning to later on today! Will let you know what they make of it and whether it is a success!
