I ran out of hay for my two piggies the day before yesterday and I haven't had the chance to buy any more. I will be ordering some more but I'm afraid it won't arrive for a while. There is also a severe weather warning in place for my area so because of that I won't be able to go into town and buy any to keep them going, plus most of the shops will be closed. Will they be alright for a few more days? I wasn't sure what to do so I have been feeding them fresh grass.

Guineas need hay . There is plenty of information on here and elsewhere that states that their daily diet should be 80% hay . Is there nowhere you can get some? I understand nobody's perfect - but I really can't justify a piggy being without for more than 24 hours .

I understand they need unlimited hay, that's why I came here in a panic. I'm doing the best I can and obviously I will try to get them some hay as soon as possible but I came here asking if they would be okay until I can get them more, and if grass could work as a substitute for now?
The only shop where I could get hay tomorrow would be Tesco if it's open, though I'm not sure if their hay is good quality, but if I need to I'll buy some for now.

Supermarket hay will be OK :)

yeah, try all supermarkets/ wilko's/ Garden centres. Hope you find some. A lot of Vets may sell hay also

Have you tried Fetch? They are part of Waitrose and will deliver next day...that's if you're not cut off of course.

Fresh grass is just fine. Mine have it whenever possible. They prefer it to everything else.

Glad you got their hay sorted!

grass can replace hay and if they are used to the grass you won't notice any difference in poo. When we had a bit of snow in Rome and my piggies haven't had no grass for 2 days (I had cut a lot of grass but after two days only my rustic boar ate it) their poo was little and different. I bought different hay, also timothy but they definitely prefer grass.
Hay is made of dried grasses; fresh grass has water and vitamins, but contains the same silica which erodes teeth.
Unfortunately if it will be snowing and then chilly with ice, all the grass will be ruined... Cut some grass now, if you can, put it into a bag and take it outside the balcony or into the fridge.
Anyway, if you find some hay at the supermarket, my advice is to have always 5-6 kg of hay at home, before ordering it again (I buy hay online).
Deliveries with such a bad weather might be on late...

Just wish we could get grass!
Roll on the Spring!
you know Janice, yesterday I found a little hill nearby which was not exposed to the cold winds and when the snow melted the grass there was still alive! it is a lovely tender grass, the one my piggies prefer  The piggies started popcorning when I went home with the bag!:D

I’d say send some over but no postal deliveries here just now! X
