Hemel

Just picked up range and she is bleeding at her rear -end?

What should I do? what other information do I need to provide?

Is it pouring out? If it is i would try stop it and bath it with some wet cotton balls or something.

I aren't very clued up with piggies but I'm sure someone will know what to do soon.

I think she needs a visit to the vets also, which I'm sure you thought of anyway .

Good luck Range xx

Thanks Amy - no its not pouring - i've noticed a little on the vet bed / and my shorts...!

Could it be a period? I'll take another look.

I would just bathe it for now to make sure no infection.
I dont know anything about piggy periods unfortunately! I didnt even know they could have them!
Does she look to be uncomfortable or in any pain? x

Just had a look - whilst its still not pouring - its looking worse. I've put her back in the hutch...

she doesn't seem to be in pain - usual - eating...!

How should i bathe it?

Is it bloody pee or pure thick blood?

If it is pee rather than pure blood, you are dealing with UTI/cystitis.

If it is bleeding pure blood, it could be a) bladder stones b) womb infection c) gut infection.

If it is just a bit of bleeding, it could be from a season, especially if it stops and does not return. If it continues and gets worse, your piggy need to be seen by a vet.

Unfortunately I dont know what it could be, so long as she's not in pain for now. If you are unsure i would take her to the vets. Someone on here may know whats wrong.

Good luck xx

Better to be safe than sorry

If in any doubt, get her to a vet

It can sometimes happen.

Keep an eye out over the next few weeks; if you have a repeat, you need to see the vet.

We have a pig who has regular bleeding from her back end, we've been back and forth to the vets over the last 6 months with her and they think it's bladder stones. I wouldn't necessarily presume that it's something horrific, when we had the vets for the first time in December I was convinced after we'd lose her in a matter of days but thankfully she is still with us and in fantastic condition. Obviously you will have to find the cause of her bleeding so definitely take her to the vets.

We follow the ratewatchers diet now to make sure she's getting the right balance of phosphorus and calcium as too much calcium can cause bladder stones so might be something to consider if she is diagnosed with them.
