Two seperate issues here first my niece works in a private nursery linked to a primary school, a few weeks ago she called me to say could I take in 2 piggies as they were donated to class after the class (lone) piggie died but were not child friendly so they wanted rid of them......I won't type my exact words but I explained that it wasn't fair on the pigges a) to be in class b)disposable pets etc etc....

I hoped I had got through to her but.....Tonight my daughter has been to P&H with niece to get new school Piggie a lone male!

I'm so angry with the school and with P&H I can't believe they have done it. Why are they still allowed to sell lone piggies. :(
I've had words with my Niece tonight and she said she had told the other people in the nursery but they were adamant that having a pet was good for the babies/children. For gods sake these are babies fromm 6 weeks old up to 4.

I am really grrrrgrrrrgrrrrgrrrr

Rant over

Can six week old babies really appreciate guinea pigs? :{

I totally get where you're coming from, my cousin's class go through a lot of class pets, but the novelty of each one seems to wear off remarkably quickly.

If it were up to me, a class pet wouldn't be anything other than a goldfish!

It's not fair on the piggies either, surely they never get to feel properly pampered if they are being passed from one child to another?

Stuff like this annoys me too, you'd think the school would be teaching more responsibility than introducing, as you say, disposable pets!

Whay cant they do what our promary school did and bring people in with pets and other animals? We used to have the wild animal man in occasionally.

SUrely a PAT dog (or something similar) would be better than a small guinea pig...

Well for those who cared to answer/reply there was a better outcome after I got involved. If you want to know PM me.

Before I knew much about guinea pigs, I went into P@H and asked if it was ok to keep one guinea pig on their own. I was told "yes, he/she will be fine on their own".

I'm so glad I never took their word for it but I wonder how many people do :(

Goldfish are animals too and not as easy to look after as its made out :x

pets at home allways sell lone piggies, they give you a discount if you buy 2 but they dont mind,

out schools dont have any pets they like peoepl to bring pets in to show the children but they dont keep them

I brought a lone piggy from P@H but when I said I wanted one, the lady told me that they prefer to live in pairs. I explained my situation that I was getting her to befriend another and she was really helpful explaining how to introduce them etc. I agree though that class pets should be banned!
