So for those of you who didn't read my last thread...I 'rescued' 2 females on Sunday...got them from a lady who said her daughter was allergic to them. I was a bit concerned about one of them having a 'large, lumpy' tummy and took them to the vets tonight.

So, the outcome is that I now have 2 (yes, 2!) pregnant guinea pigs! Freckles (the one i was concerned about) is a few weeks away from giving birth and the vet said he could feel at least 4 babies. He then checked Biscuit to make sure 'she' wasn't a 'he'...and he felt that she was pregnant too but much earlier on than Freckles.

I am delighted (that she doesn't have a nasty tumour or something) but a bit shocked. I need to get myself up to speed with pregnancy and birth (heading to those threads now!) and the vet was excellent and gave me lots of advice.

I now have an interesting conversation to have with the lady who sold them to me! grrrr

Ouch! Best of luck for the next few weeks - they will be a rather steep learning curve!

Please start your own thread in the pregnancy section, so our experienced "midwives" have all the relevant circumstances together and can keep their advice tailored to your specific situation.

Gosh your gonna have your hands full!

These were the girls you bought from the 'Free Ads' (You buy 2, you get loads free)

I really hope the girls are OK and the babies too, bless them

yes i did get them from the free ads! maybe a lesson learned but really thought i was helping her out..and after speaking to her yesterday she didn't have a clue they were pregnant and couldn't tell me how it had happened. She then informed me they also have 2 boy piggies but the children 'know not to mix them'! I suspect the kids have been up to mischief!

I will do my very best to look after these poor wee girls and just glad i got them and not someone with very little piggie knowledge. I dont have any pregnancy experience but know how to care for pigs at least unlike a lot of people! They've been checked by a vet last night and are being well fed.

looking forward to anything Suzy or others might have to help me on this journey! :)
