Rapunzel has a spot on either her belly or back leg/hip that is tender to the touch. I can’t feel anything obvious, but when I pet her down that side she jumps and tries to bite me. Luckily she doesn’t have any therapy visits the rest of the week. I have her an appointment at the vet for Friday. She did this about a week ago and I thought it got better, but now she seems sore again. She is eating/drinking pooping/peeing normally and no weight loss, so I don’t think it’s an emergency. Any ideas on what it could be?

I have searched through all of her fur and I can’t see any sore spot on the surface, I’m worried it is something internal

Unfortunately, you need a hands-on examination for that. Our guesses are as good as yours since there is not exactly much to go on from your description. :(

Good that you have booked her in!

I hope she is ok. When my late Bumble had sizeable ovarian cysts I couldn't stroke her right side without her reacting like you are describing. Something is clearly not comfortable for her but luckily not so bad that it is causing her to stop eating etc. Hope the vet gets to the bottom of it

That is one thing I was suspecting. How do they diagnose and treat ovarian cysts?

Sending healing vibes across the pond to the gorgeous Rapunzel. Its such a worry when they aren't well. I have my beautiful silver fox Christian in the hospital cage atm.

I just read some stuff on ovarian cysts and she has been doing a lot of rumble strutting lately and just seems more moody. I don’t see any bald spots or crusty nipples though. I wish I didn’t have to wait until Friday, but my vet is not there tomorrow and I will be at my daughter’s school all day Thursday.

Oh no, healing vibes to Christian too!

Often Vets can feel them, or they can use a ultrasound scan. Treatment can be done on the variety of different ways, some vets will just leave small cysts and keep an eye on them, larger cyst’s require Either Hormone treatment such as injections to shrink the cysts we have had this done and appears in the past and it has worked, or possible spaying.
Sending her lots of love and you a big hug, please let us know how she gets on at the vets X

Healing wheeks Rapunzel, hope its nothing too serious! Its amazing what a good vet can feel just by a hands-on examination, or there are scans and xrays, hope you get on ok at the vets x

With Bumble the cysts were sizeable and the vet could feel them immediately but she still did an ultrasound for full clarification and an emergency spay given the size of them. Bea had much smaller cysts and no symptoms until she barbered a strip of hair down her tummy. The vet that saw her could feel them though they were small and it burst on examination. I was told as it was all sterile in there she would be fine but it may come back, she managed fine when they did come back over a year later but as she was in the process of dying from renal failure we just left them alone as they weren't causing her problems

Poor Rapunzel - hope things go well at the vets on Friday.
Jemimah had a spay last year due to ovarian cysts and all went well. So if that is what’s wrong with Rapunzel a spay does deal with the problem permanently.
Holding you in my thoughts

Thank you. If it is ovarian cysts, I’ll probably go with spaying her instead of less permanent treatments. She is almost 3, so hopefully she will make it through ok

Wish everyone the best.
When my pets are sick, I feel sick along with them so I feel I have to wish the best to the pet parents also.

My daughter’s field trip was canceled so I was able to get Rapunzel seen today. He gave her a good check up and palpated her forever and said he couldn’t find anything abnormal. He thinks that maybe she is just having a strong season. He told me to check her over in about a week and see if she still has any tender spots. Would a strong season cause tenderness in her belly (like cramps for a human woman)? Or maybe she is just extra agitated. She did squeak and try to bite when he got to that spot.

I hope Rapunzel gets over whatever problem is causing her to react like she has. I know you will be keeping a close eye on her progress. Healing vibes being sent over the waves for her

Glad the vet couldn’t find anything obviously wrong.
Let’s hope and pray it’s just a strong season and she’s ok in a few days.
It’s so worrying when we know something isn’t quite right with our our darling piggies
