So as you know I volunteer with Rapunzel. We go to a cancer treatment center once a week. She does great and enjoys lap time and petting while people get their treatments. There is one man who we see every week, he loves Rapunzel, but every time he starts petting her she turns around and points her behind at him. (I hold her with her head facing out and people pet her head or back). She doesn’t do this with anyone else. He pets her gently and does everything right. I wonder if it’s a smell or his voice that bothers her. She seems fine after she turns around. I didn’t want him to feel bad so I told him that she must really trust him to have her back to him lol.
I also noticed that Rapunzel does not like smokers (no offense to those who smoke), whenever someone smells strongly of cigarettes, she tries to hide under my arm. We don’t smoke so I guess it is just a new strange smell for her.

I'm not sure about the turning her back to the guy behavior, but guinea pigs like most other animals, have stronger senses than us humans and especially the sense of smell.

If there are some people who already feel disgusted and asthmatic towards cigarettes' smoke, then you can only imagine guinea pigs feeling worse about it (not to mention they're known for having respiratory problems so that's another possibility)

What you're doing is amazing btw, keep up the good work, both you and Rapunzel ❤️❤️

I would suspect it’s probably a smell that she can detect coming from him that we with our poor sense of smell don’t. Even humans can smell cigarettes so it must be very strong for her. She’s such a beauty, she must really cheer everyone up x

I would also think it is something to do with smell, They have a very heightened response to it.

Rapunzel is such a star for bringing something so special into peoples lives
