Hi, I noticed this evening my piggy has what looks like a rash behind her ear. It's only on one ear and I cannot see anything else on her.

I don't think it's ringworm. Any ideas anyone?

I'm planning to take her to the vet on Friday. But I'm panicking!

Could you post a picture ?

Is there any chance you could get an earlier vet appointment as I think it'd be worth getting this checked out ASAP.

And, make sure you wash you hands thoroughly after handling - just in case.

Hi, cannot work out how to post a photo?! Do you know how? I have clicked each icon.
I'm working all week but possibility.

Thank you for responding,

Naomi.

Hi, thank you for posting the link. I was on my phone, I think that's why it was not showing up. I am on my laptop now.

Ps her ear always goes slightly pinker/brown when its warm. Its more along the edge of her bald patch there seems to be a rash. They have gone out in their run this week from being indoors all winter. I'm not sure if that has something to do with it, the also get lots of fresh grass. Could she catch something from the grass?

Thank you! x

Piggy ears go pink when they are warm and there is naturally a bald patch behind their ears - so don't worry about that . Are you based in the UK?

Hi, yes I am, I'm in London. It just looks redder/sore along the edge of the bald patch?

Thank you

Oh and I also gave her some of the beaphar spot on treatment (for Guineapigs) this weekend. I do it on the scruff of their neck. Could that irritate the skin? x

It does look inflamed and raised. Is she scratching it at all? I doubt she has picked up anything from the grass, although some plants are irritant to the skin ( hogweed for example). could it be an insect bite? Pop her along to the vets tomorrow and I am sure they will be able to advise.

... Just to rule everything out ......when she was in the run at the weekend- was she shaded from the sun?

Yeah I put a white double bed sheet over the run top and it was half under my apple tree. Thank you both!

It could be a yeast infection which can grow when things are moist and humid. My Mabel had it a few years ago, will see if I can find the thread. Will need a vets diagnosis first but if the vet agrees I think Mabel's was treated with Canesten nappy rash cream. Either that or a reaction to something in the grass.

Oh gosh thanks? That's just what it looks like. I will confirm with the vets.

Thank you everyone for you help!

It cleared up pretty quickly once we started treatment. Just to let you know if the vet wants to test for fungal it most likely won't be a positive result as the cultures only tend to show up Ringworm, which this isn't.
