Just eating my Raspberries for breakfast here, and noticed that they seem to have a decent Vitamin C value, 26% RDA for humans, per 80g (2 handfuls), and also 2.6g Fibre for every 100g. Which made me consider them as a nice treat for my piggies, hidden in their hay every few days (No chance of them going in the bowl as the vet bed will end up stained and will make me panic!). Obviously I would be careful with how much I give them, as they are acidic and rich.

But as a treat I am almost certain they will not turn these down!

I was wondering what other people thought about this.

We have a huge raspberry bush in our garden that have loads on, at the moment i keep spoiling my chipmunks with them (and myself :)) ) and i thought Hmmm wonder if the piggies would like them.. so i broke one in half (so they would realise what was in it) well they came running over and sniffed it and thought "pfft! what's that?" i even threw some down and they just turn their noses up at them...typical! grrrr lol

My guineas are absolutely TERRIFIED of orange, it's like the smell is repulsive to them. Once one gets the guts to overcome the smell, they happily gobble them down.

I don't bother normally now. Only when the orange is on the turn do I break the bits in half and sqidge the insides out.

Ours do eat raspberries though, but do a rather amusing thing with their mouths. They seem to chew wider and open their mouths much further than neccessary with raspberries, I am thinking perhaps it's the hairs.

Guineas are funny animals...

i tried mine with raspberries last night 6 out of 8 sniffed but wouldn't eat, cookie took a bit then promptly spat it back out. toffee however seems to like them and gobbles it down, whilst her mouth was wide open.

fluff freaks out at strawberries she runs and hides if i feed them to the others.

Jeddy has turned her nose up at both fruits I've tried her on so far so I might give this a go, I'll pop into Sainsbury's in my lunch break. :3 I'll get some other bits as well while I'm there, I've been running out...

I'm a bit worried though, Jeddy's small and if I give her more than about a quarter of a cup of veggies a day she gets an upset tummy, is this usual in young ones? I've been cutting back and just giving her a little veg each night to try and get her used to eating it as I think she just ate pellets in the store, am I doing the right thing? :S

always introduce new veg slowly only a new one every 3-4 days to avoid upset stomachs.

Phew, glad I did that right. She's been having a little bit of cucumber most frequently, it's her favourite so far and I've been trying her with odd bits of other things in between, so I'll give her a tiny bit of apple or a dandelion leaf in the two days I leave between familiar veg like carrot and cucumber, which were the first she tried and loved.

I'm a bit scared to give her broccoli again as it was after I gave her that that she got the upset tummy but I'll ease her into the veggies and find things she likes as I go along. @)

Thank you for confirming I should be doing it slowly, I was scared she wasn't getting enough. :{

I have never tried my girls with raspberries but they don't like strawberries so I guess they might be the same with them. They do like blueberries though! :)
