Just back from the vet. We've decided to leave well alone as regards Misti's head. She still has a large hole with skull showing but the edges are sealed and it's clean and dry. Its too close to her ear and eye and would be difficult to close. Also, she's almosf 5 years old so its not worth risking surgery. The hole doesnt bother her,the vet says it should! Her eye is also fully recovered.

Crackers still has a large scab of dead skin, but again we decided to leave well alone.

The vet is so impressed with their recovery that shes going to feature them on their FB page!

I can thoroughly recommend Friendly Animal Clinic in Sowerby Bridge, a lovely friendly vet who obviously isnt into performing procedures just for the profit.

I used to use Arnica on any cuts my dogs had, it really is fantastic, maybe ask the vet if you can.

Of course guinea pigs may have very different skin to humans so I am happy to be corrected but you must not put arnica on broken (human) skin as it is very much an irritant. It is brilliant for bruising though.

:yikes: What a horror story! God, I can't think what I would do if that happened to my girls! I was surprised that Misti didn't lose her eye. It looked terrible.
Aren't guinea pigs funny things? They can survive something like this, but an upset tummy can kill them!:hmm:

Have you tried Manuka honey? Or won't your vet prescribe it? I used it on my young ponies face when he took a chunk out of his cheek with a sharp object (we think a nail), and it healed without scarring really well.
Manuka Honey healing.

Oh my goodness! That is horrific, absolutely horrific! What an ordeal. It's a huge credit to you and your vets, and also to their inner strength, that they survived this. sweet sweet girls.
