ok we have a rat hanging around
apart from a shovel over the head anyone got any ideas how to get rid of it?
we've already put ratty poison down out near the back fence and are thinking of a rat trap
luckily its not been in the shed yet and I'm keeping the poison away from the crews

yeah thats what we thought but there are that many from the co-op ( rats ) that they will just keep coming back :(

Yes I was reading an article on getting rid and kepping rid of mice and one chap used a humane trap and marked the mice before he set them free and the came back :o

Don't bother setting them free, just kill them, they won't come back. I had mice in my shed last winter and put bait boxes where the most activity seemed to be. I found a few dead bodies on the floor and a few almost dead bodies (which quickly became dead bodies ;)). After a while there seemed to be no evidence of mice still in the shed and its remained that way since. I thought more might have moved in this winter but up to just I'm mouse free *hugs lots of trees*

After my OH tried his home-made trap which was a total wash-out we got a supposed friendly trap, which turned out to be not quite so friendly.
I didn't mind them coming into the run area so much but because they couldn't get to the food they gnawed all the newspaper from the outside of the hutches, when that proved unsuccessful they gnawed holes in my water bottles. That was the last straw so we got some of those sticky pads & poison - the sticky pads were great until one day i reached on top of the hutch for a piggy tunnel & yep the sticky pad, along with a dead teenaged long-tail was stuck to it - it made me jump i can tell you then i felt ever so guilty for the little thing i had to bury it

must tell you of a funny story about rats, years ago my shed had rabbits as well in together with some pigs, not in together, buns on bottom and pigs on top the pigs were in their outside attached run and buns in thier hutchs with an inside and outside run,
MIck saw a rat walk into the shed , he grabbed a lump of wood and shut himself in, well after the shed rocking and the banging and crashing half the neighbourrs coming to see what was going on he stepped outside the shed proud as punch with this dead rat
( bloody big as well) hanging from its tail in MIcks hand, it was only after we all told him that you never corner a rat it goes for your throat he thought it not a good idea, and started shaking, I rushed into see my babys to find the pigs all inside watching the madman, bunnys were a little stunned as he was jumping about thier run luckly he had shut them in first,
it was so funny the rat was as big as a smallish cat ,
we used poison from then on lol ;D ;D ;D ;D

I would give the council a ring they put blocks down that they take back to thier nest. Not sure which department you need though or if they charge bound too though. The stuff they use is very effective, Focus do it all and b&q all sell stuff humane or otherwise. I had a few mice under mine last October brought some bait and not seen one since bet now I posted that I see them again. Good luck

Our local council is always going on about rats.
Then they stop our twice-weekly rubbish collections.
Helpful, that.

We rang the council as we frequently have furry visitors. Because we have no young children we had to wait 3 wks, which was actually 4 by which time we'd sorted the problem ourselves. When i explained what the little menaces had done to my water bottles he said "oh they will do, they'll eat anything they can"

Thanks!

mum emailed the council this morning about it,thankfully it doesnt cost anything to come out and splat them
since she put the poison down in the garden its been eaten,i like furry thingies but i dont like them hanging around my crews so I hope they die a horrible death after eating the poison ,lol ( sorry)

As a dedicated rat lover i couldn't bring myself to poison them, particularly after seeing the affects of poison on one poor unfortunate. But i know what a pain wild ones can be! My friend lives near a co-op and had a bad rat infestation problem. She complained to the co-op but they did nothing so she complained to environmental services and they came out and gave the co-op a right telling off! Since then she'd pretty much been ratty free.

On a ligher note we have some wild mice living under the shed at the bottom of our garden. My dad was going to attempt to get rid of them but frankly they're so entertaining to watch we couldn't brinf ourselves to do it!

well mum emailed the council yest morning and they came out within 3 hours :o :o
theyve set rat traps etc etc so we'll see what happens, the rats seem to be hanging around next doors pond more than my shed so far,but thats prob because shes putting breadcrumbs out etc for the birds ::)
she was told to remove them by the council guy..mwaahaha
but I swear if they go near my piggies...whack! spade on the head job
