Hi, I'm not sure what's up with Poppys breathing, I've just got in from work and her breathing sounds rattley tho she seems absolutely fine otherwise and is tucking in to tea. Does anyone have any experience of this? She's nearly 3 years old.

I would get her checked by your vet if you can. It could be something as simple as dust up her nose but you need to rule out a URI. There may be fluid on her chest in which case the vet would hopefully give a diuretic to help clear it. Humid weather can sometimes affect breathing too. It so good that she is eating though.

I agree with Helen.

I had a scare with my Edward on Monday when he suddenly started hooting and sneezing. I thought it was the beginning of a URI but after a check up at the vets, she put it down to him having something irratating his nose / allergies and he has been fine ever since.

Always best to be safe x

I would definitely get a vet check. URIs can come on very quickly and deteriorate very quickly too. Best to be safe than sorry.

One of my piggies gets snuffly when the weather is damp. A few days of metacam and bisolvon usually sorts her out. Its always best to get respiratory problems checked by a vet promptly as they can get worse so fast

Thanks everyone, I coudnt check replies last night as our internet connection is very poor here at the moment, Poppy seems fine this morning, the rattling sound has stopped, thank goodness! It was a bit of a worry tho. I don't want to seem a bit dim but could someone explain to me what a URI is please? I've not heard of it before.
Thanks again guys.

URI is an upper respiratory tract infection- an infection anywhere from the nose to the chest.

It is great the rattling has stopped, it may have just been a partial obstruction. If you are however worried about her in any way- loss of appetite, heavier breathing or the rattling returns- please seek veterinary advice asap.

All the best x
