Hello
I am new to the forum but just wanted some advice. We have a 4 year old female guinea pig who sadly lost her cage mate just before xmas. The cage mate was her son and he was 1 year old. They were very close and since then she seems to be very depressed, not making noise and hiding most of the day. She is eating but starting to loose weight now. We have been trying to decide whether to get another piggy or rehome her but we have decided the best option would be to rehome. (Long story but we have 2 small children who have experienced a bit of loss in their lives and feel pet deaths have added to this sadness and maybe it's time to break the cycle for now). Does anyone know of any good rehoming places near Leeds?

I am so sorry you feel you have to let your girl go to a new home.
I have linked the list of forum approved rescues for you.
Thank you I appreciate this. I am very sad to let her go, she is such a lovely guinea pig and so kind natured. I just want her to be happy again and find a new friend

Sending love to your bereaved piggie and hoping she finds happiness with a new home and friend soon xx

Sorry that you are in this situation.
Considering your piggy’s needs above your own shows such a loving and generous spirit.
It will feel like a second bereavement so be gentle with yourself when she leaves you.

In the bereavement thread there’s some good material to help children grieve, this will help with other losses as well as the loss of a pet.

Thank you for your kind words. I am sad to report that Poppy died through the night, we are devastated, I think over the past few days she had just had enough without Timmy. Last night she didn't eat much and we had planned to take her to the vets this morning to make sure there wasnt anything else underlying, we are devastated. The only saving grace is we can lay her to rest next to her son and hope she finds peace

Oh I’m so sorry for your loss, what a tough time you’ve had. Really hope you’re all ok, we’re all here on the forum if you need us x

Aw I’m so sorry :( I’m in Lancashire and was going to offer to take her as I’m on the look out for a sow. She will be popcorning over the rainbow bridge with her son (((hugs))) x

I’m sorry to hear your sad news and your previous loss. She was where she wanted to be - in her home with you. Hope you’ll all be okay eventually. Do take time to grieve.

Popcorn free Poppy 💕

Oh I’m so sorry you’ve lost both Timmy and now Poppy, sending you big hugs, how tragic, she must have missed him so much x

I am so, so sorry that you have lost Poppy as well.
Be gentle with yourselves, grief is painful and it takes time to work through.
If you would like to you can post a tribute to both Poppy and Timmy on the Rainbow Bridge thread.
