As some of you know, my guinea pig Poppy had her operation on Monday to have 3 lumps removed. The one on her side is healing nicely as you can see in the first two pics but I am a bit concerned about the one on her belly (see last pic). It was healing nicely and looked okay yesterday but I checked her over today and noticed some bright red bits on the scab. Is this where the scab has fallen off? Should I be concerned? Any advice is appreciated, thank you.

She was given a five day course of Metacam and something else that didnt have a name on the bottle. She finished them both on Friday. She went for a check up on Friday and the vet said everything looked fine.
 
I would say that the wound doesn't look fantastic. It's difficult to tell but it looks a little crusty and a little weepy, and a bit more open than I'd like.

Certainly worth a check up I think.
 
That doesn't look right surely, maybe she is in pain still and possibly why she has bitten. Keep us posted as to what happens at the vets tonight.
 
I would agree, that wound doesn't look quite right, i would think she bit as maybe you hurt her, unintentionally of course. Also a little concerned they give you med's in a bottle with no label for reference, so therefore no dosage instructions or anything....?

I would take it with you and ask them to provide a label for it.

Poor girly, how has she been since the op? Has she lost any weight? She is ever such a pretty little girl xx
 
Aw thanks :) Nope, no weight loss! She is eating as much as ever!

Only thing I have noticed is, she used to run to evade me picking her up, but since the op she just sits there and and lets me pick her up. Not sure if she's too tired or in pain to run? She is fine in every other way. Still chases her sister around the floor.
 
I would think it is more pain related, she probably doesn't feel like running. xx
 
Just got back from the vets. He said it's not healing as well as he would like and it looks like she may have been biting it.

He said the options are to keep her away from the wounds which is obv a bit impossible with a pig so he has given me anotehr 7 day course of antibitoics. Metacam and that unlabeled stuff.

The scab also came off while i was there! and he glued her back together!

She is home now with sister Daisy and lots of brocolli!
