What's you're guineas first reaction to something new? After cleaning the cage out today I gave the boys a box of hay to play with. As soon as I put them back into the cage Peanut walked up to it and bit it. Spike then walked over to the box and gave it a head butt. Not the reaction I expected, I thought they would both jump in the box wheeking, guess sadly my boys are growing up, to old for babyish excitement now.

My piggies go all round the item sometimes biffing it with their noses, biting it or stepping on it and sometimes being terrified of it! But always sniffing it and nodding their wee heads as they move their noses up and down to get best sniff! Very cute!

We made a fleece forest earlier and took it in to the summerhouse with their heatpad for the night - we were surprised to see both piggies dive in within seconds after giving it a bit of a sniff first. They are babies though so maybe more curious. It was very satisfying to see them exploring it so quickly after making it for them :D

I just put new toys in my girls' cage. Kindle, my older, braver piblet, has so far only hesitantly sniffed the cocoa shell with colored ropes thing, but has bravely gone up and licked the tug-shred ribbon. Sonnet, my younger, timid pib, has so far fled from both and kept her distance from them as far as possible. :P

^^^TERRIFYING NEW THIIIIIINGS

Hadley is pretty curious about new things and will go check them out. Sundae.... well, Sundae is pretty much terrified of new things. The last 'enrichment item' I bought for them had to be given to Hadley in private because the sight of it in the hall was enough to keep Sundae from leaving the cage!

My one right now, Athena, just doesn't bother with it for a few days besides sniffing it a bit and then finally decides to give it a go. She's not an adventurous one. I hope I can find a buddy for her that'll bring out the daring side of her, haha.

depends what the thing is;

food - rumbles over to it and eats it
toys - ignores utterly, i no longer give him toys
bedding/clean carpet thing, outside box etc - rumbles over and rubs his bum on it

anything for the bird - rushes over and plays/eats/lurks next to so bikbok cant it
new things for me that have been left on the floor - rushes over quickly and rubs his filth all over it and tries to pee on it :cen:

My son made a maze out of junk boxes etc this afternoon and I thought of this thread as the girlies were in it within a minute of it being put in their enclosure! I got a couple of little videos (excuse us chatting in background!)

As an early Christmas I gave them a strawberry fleece house and they Blossom and Midnight spent the rest of the afternoon stalking it and hiding behind their tubes! They looked like spies wondering if it was dangerous! they now love it though!
